BIOGRAPHY

I started to play basketball when I was 10. My brother, Simon Sahi, and I were coached in track and field by our father, a decathlon record holder. When we finished our work-outs with him, he would tell us to "cool down" by playing cricket or soccer. But we discovered a basketball court near the track and started to play basketball instead. It was not much of a court. It had a brick surface and there were rims with no nets. We didn't have a basketball at first so we played with our soccer ball. But we thought it was great! Soon we were playing at a real court at the local university and we were noticed by a coach who thought we had potential. My brother, at 15th, was selected to play for the junior national championships. At 17, he was selected to play for India, which was a huge honor at such a young age. But I was not far behind him!
I was also selected to play for India in 2004 and started to play international tournaments. I was declared the best point guard in Asia that same year and went on to win other awards such as top scorer at the Basketball Without Borders tournament in Beijing, China in 2005. I have been honored to represent India since that time at many international tournaments in Asia and the Middle East, as well as participating in the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2006.

My father passed away several years ago and my brother now lives in the US. I continue to play for India and to honor the memory of my father.
